I also find people characters much more interesting than subversive space zombies. The fact that BBI continued this trend in DoK with crashed starships says that's more what Homeworld is about. Homeworld 2 does a much better job carrying this theme by illustrating the progenitors and accomplishing an ancient prophecy- themes I found much more interesting. Cataclysm's only mystery is really where the Naggarock came from, and it's not a question we dwell on. Homeworld 1 gave us the four thousand year treaty, the mysterious ghost ship, the ruins at Karos, and the payoff of reclaiming a homeworld stolen in an ancient wrong now righted. I prefer more sophistication in my enemies, and I really didn't like the Taiidan being dumbed down in this way.Ĭatlacysm also didn't have much reverence for ancient mysteries. In Cataclysm the Imperials are presented as being cartoonishly evil, allying themselves with a threat that could and would very easily turn on them. In HW1, your allies are other Taiidan made from the very Imperial Guard you have to fight in the latter levels. There was nuance to Homeworld that was also lost on Cataclysm.
